Head gasket torque
Replacing my head gasket, had the head skimmed, what I need to know is about retorque. I saw some people say it needs to be done after its been run, However my manual doesn't say a thing about it. Im useing a factory yamaha gasket. What's the skinny?
Re: Head gasket torque
I don't see anything in the factory manual that says you have to re-torque after running the engine. It does say to torque in two stages, whatever that means. Sorry, I'm not an engine builder. I have read that it depends on the cylinder head gasket.

Re: Head gasket torque
Torque in two stages =
Torque in correct order to a few lbs/ft below recommended torque.(say 75%)
Repeat operation to 100% specified torque.
Retorquing after running is usually reserved for high compression engines with composite head gaskets nowadays.
