Fork seal bulls%$#

Post by demon_knight69 »

i'm still amazed to this day on how every "simple, straight forward job" that i attempt turns into a f'ing nightmare. i got new fork seals and dust covers to attempt my first oil seal replacement. it was hell of a job just getting the front end off the ground onto jack stands first of all. everything came apart relatively easy after that. then the "special tool" i made ended up being the wrong size so i had to make a new one. after that, again everything seemed to come apart pretty easy. putting one fork back together (haven't even started on the other yet) the damn damper rod bolt snapped :yikes: so i went to ace hardware to see if by chance they had one, and of course they were closed. so i'll attempt ace hardware after work today in the off chance they have an allen bolt the same size as whats needed. if not, i'll be ordering more damn parts. 3 hour job my ass swear , anyways, just had to vent my frustration with murphy and his damn law that follows me everywhere

I hear that. I spent two weeks chasing my fuel system demon, only to find the fuel system is in perfect shape and the problem was probably the bad regulator. So I order one up off ebay thinking it would be here within a week; try two and a half weeks, priority mail my ass. The bike is finally put back together, so hopefully I can mark this demon as slain.

I've found these to be very descriptive smilies, banghead swear

That's why I leave the forks to local mechanics. Sometimes the headache is just worth paying someone else to deal with. And I don't have the special tools for all that. Maybe someday.

3 hour job would be for a professional probably, more like 30 hours for us knuckleheads.

I hate when I break something... it's always when the store is closed and lord know Wal-mart doesn't have anything that works in it's place.

As far as the smilies go, they make posting real easy. Here's the condensed version of what you originally posted:

swear fork seal banghead broke swear bolt :thumbsdown store closed swear banghead :duh:

LOL2 good one darrin.

as far as paying the mechanics goes, i thought about it. but bringing the bike in and having them do it would be $250, or if i brought the forks in it would be $175. i figured getting the forks off was the bulk of the work so how hard could the rest be? boy was i wrong. oh well, i stopped by ace hardware on my lunch break and got some replacements that will hopefully fit (crossing fingers) the head is not an allen head and is quite a bit larger in diameter so i dont know if it will fit in the bottom of the fork or not, but its all they had. so with a little luck and a lot of swear hopefully i'll be RRBike in the next day or so.
