Help with engine case issue

Post by turbo787 »

Hello guys and gals. Like the title states, I have a slight issue/question. My 99 fzr600 broke the clutch pushrod and seal before I bought her. That was the reason for selling he bike because the owner couldn't find the parts. So I got her cheap and bought the parts. The ball bearing is still on the clutch cover so I left it alone. Now, the pushrod gouged the lower case a bit more towards the outside of the case where the seal goes. The is the slightes of play but nothing more and everything seems to fit in place along with the seal. So my question is if I should get a replacement lower case? Maybe just epoxy or marinetec the one I have just to feel better? Never had an fzr before so I don't know how it should be from the factory? Is a little bit of play ok? Is the fitment tight where it goes? Engine cases are not aluminum and can't be welded but with the epoxy and some fine filing would it be fine? Thanks and hope someone with more experience with these engines can help... Will try to post a pic when I take one tomorrow...

The seal isn't a particularly structural component, so using epoxies to repair the area isn't a big deal. JB Weld, Loctite green, or similar compounds will do nicely.

Thanks for the reply...I figured that was probably the best thing to do but I just wanted to make sure. The face where the seal goes is the only thing with what you might call a slight gouge so that is perfect. Now, the pushrod has a slightly smaller diameter at one end and a bigger one at the other...which end goes where? The small end towards the clutch and the big round end on the ball bearing or vice versa? The pictures I took with the phone are awfull so I won't post them...but if someone can tell me how it goes I will greatly appreciate it. I think the small end goes towards the clutch since the seal matches the roundness of the bigger end but just to make sure you know? Thanks!!!!!!
