New owner 1990 ('89) 3HE

Hello everyone!
Short intro... I'm Paul, a 33yr old radiographer from the Netherlands.
I'm relatively new to the bike scene, had my license for a while but have been bikeless till recently.
I was able to aquire a low mileage '90 3HE for a few hundred €, mechanically sound but a bit rough around the edges cosmetically.

But that will be sorted soon, I have found a full set of plastics incl. framework.
Besides that, just done the standard things: full service, new tyres and drivetrain & brake check (both 90%)

Welcome and congratulations on not only your purchase but also on ensuring the brakes and tyres are in good order.

It looks relatively free from crash damage except the nosecone ?

Take time to inspect the charging system and the gearbox sprocket retaining nut....both are known
issues and are easily upgraded.

The most noticeable damage is as you mentioned the nose cone along with a few cracks l+r in the side fairings. If you look at the bike dead head on you can see that the support frame for the nose cone is slightly off.

I know you have this bike down as a 1990 model.

If that is from the registration documentation it may be incorrect.

The 1989 model was the only year with twin piston calipers/ front forks.

It would be relevant for brake upgrades if intended at a later date.

Does the cockpit have strange shaped extensions (trims) that fit above the part shown as broken on yours ?


Also an oil cooled plumbed into the oil filter housing is typical of the 89 model and omitted on subsequent models.

You should be able to source a "birdcage" fairing nosecone frame economically...parts are numerous and not expensive for these bikes . They are straightenable if you have heat/vice and a datum .

The bike was first registered on the 20th of feb. 1990 and imported to the Netherlands in 1993. The dutch authorities use the date of registration as the build date.
It's good to know that the actual model/build year is '89.
I found some discrepancies when comparing my bike to the model specs online. [emoji6]

The guy who had the red plastics for me also had all the birdcage bits n bobs along with some other spare parts (for a really price [emoji6] )
