So have the bike running again and almost tuned. Still just a little rich. Unfortunately my clutch wont hold... Which disk and springs would you guys recommend. Hold the power is top priority over ease of use.

Re: 1988 FZR 1000 Build
Aftermarket hd springs, and stock clutches... stock clutches are hard to find and im not sure which ones interchange. I bought KG 20% stiffer springs, and I think KG makes stock clutches for many companies, but I may not be wrong. That's the direction I would go, I'm sure others will have details on clutch material and so on.

Re: 1988 FZR 1000 Build
Well i finally started work on it again for the winter.
New front end mocked with blue dot brakes.
So far it has been a relatively easy swap.
There have only been two problems so far.
1. The steering stops are useless now.
2. The stock genisis wheel does not fit straight away because the USD forks use a larger axle. The spacing seems to be fine so its probably just going to be a simply bearing swap issue. If anyone has any advice on this please let me know.

Re: 1988 FZR 1000 Build
Started working on putting the new tail on.
I did however make a little mistake.
The YZF600 tank is about an in and a half shorter then then the fzr1000 tank so i am going to have to redo the subframe.
You can see the problem here

Re: 1988 FZR 1000 Build
So its been a while and the FZR got put on the back burner but i am finally getting going on it again.
Just picked up a set of a real full set of Ti valves for the bike as well as race springs and TI retainers.

Re: 1988 FZR 1000 Build
I love the look of that back end
This is the sort of thing I was thinking about doing to mine until I decided to stay stock.
Hopefully you'll have a beast of a motor with them mods. Have you sorted out the clutch? Have you thought about a lockup clutch?
I've got one that I'm saving for when I (one day) put a 1000 lump with a turbo in my FZX, one of them would hold the power

Re: 1988 FZR 1000 Build
I have never seen one of the lock up clutches actually.
But i dont think it would work out too well for road course.
I have a YZF750 basket on an fzr1000 main gear that i have not had any issues with...

Apparently they are ok for general road use as they don't really become active until you get the revs up a bit and they tighten up, not tried it yet though.
But if the set up you have works then happy days. I didn't know the YZF basket was an upgrade. One of the reasons i joined this forum

Same here. I am not familure with the lock up clutch and that could be very useful. Yeah the yzf basket is different. It has a capture ring around the outside as well as other features that are different.david.jsy wrote:Apparently they are ok for general road use as they don't really become active until you get the revs up a bit and they tighten up, not tried it yet though.
