Hi guys ,
i am looking at buying an older model fzr400 . Approx 1989
it looks ok but has 88,000 kms on the clock . What are these motors like at that sort of kms ???
What are the bads points of the fzr ?? Are there any usual nasties I should be looking out for ???
it only has to last 12 months or so but I can't afford to have an engine blow up or a major drama in that time
so any info would be a great help .
its an old bike and I know I will have to spend money on it but I don't want to have to spend the value of the bike
because its past its used by date
thanks in advance
Russ
Any known fzr400 issues ??? 88,000kms

Use a screwdriver to your ear, sharp end on the engine
88k is not the end of the world, if it starts, runs, revs cleanly, doesn't blow smoke, oil & radiator fluids seem normal & holds temp at idle. Do the checks for bearings on wheels & steering, break discs, pads & chain aren't too worn. Rear shock, bounce on the seat & check the linkages.
If the bike has NOT been looked after then with 88k it will be obvious
Let us know how you got on.
