Looking for advice on bracing an FZ600 swingarm

Post by mixalive »

I want to have a brace welded onto the FZ600 swingarm on my RZ350 with 1" OD 6061. Should I use .125" or .250" thickness?

For?? Looks? or actual function? you are currently flexing the setup you have? (welds are cracking or worse?) having raced RZ's for years I am thinking your fz 600 swinger is an overmatch for the RZ frame. Have you braced that yet? It's mild steel and is much better with a few ounces of well placed gussetry

but, to your question: depends on design, but regardless .250 is probably waaaay overkill.

keep tube short and well triangulated and cope it well, use .125"

Yeah fz 600 swinger ("aluminum Monocross") . I get that. Was very common upgrade on racing RZs.

What I meant was the RZ mild steel frame is your weak link. IT could use some gussets.

Also, as far as swingers go, get rid of the stock swingarm/shock linkage bushings. They were shite plastic, had no real seals to speak of, and would feel very nice when you cleaned and lubed them...take em apart two days later and it was like wet traction paint in there. You can get sealed roller bearings that will fit the swinger i.d. and the forged link arm o.d. Spec II used to sell that as a "kit" for about $100. The bearings are about $16 if you do your research.

Sorry.. I read that wrong..

I am in the process of gusseting the frame as well.
