A) watch emergency vehicles in your area(ambulance, fire engines). If they run strobe lights facing forwards it is to trip the sensors.

B) the sensors themselves look like little rifle scopes pointed at you as you approach the lights

YOu gotta try to get your light shining on them, then flash at them\

I think my 140watt highbeams help

140W high beams..that reminds me..don't run your high beams too long if you have a high watt bulb. the guy that had my fzr before me put a bright aftermarket bulb in, i like it, it's got a blue/red/yellow tint to it depending on the angle you look at it, but the high beam melts the plug on the back of my headlight if i run it too long.

a) the plugs melt because the terminals get corrosion.

b) high wattage makes 'a' worse.

c) good terminals(replace-don't try to clean shitty ones and go to radio shack and get gold plated) and dielectric grease makes 'a' better.

d) high beams only at speed.

well, the corrosion itself doesn't melt the plug, it's the bad connection made by the corrosion creating heat when a load is carried over it, thus melting the plug. And, replacing just the plug with better connectors so that you can run a higher watt bulb has potential to be a pretty bad idea. Yamaha designed the headlight system with a certain gauge wire, that gauge wire will only safely carry a certain amount of current. Pulling more watts through it creates heat on the plug and wire, and could possibly (i say possibly, not probably) melt/fuse one of the headlight wires to another wire in the harness if the high beam is ran for too long. If you wanna run a higher watt bulb:

a) don't turn on the high beam for too long

or

b) run fatter gauge wire (like 16 gauge or something) along the wiring harness and replace the 18 gauge (i think that's what yamaha used), with better connectors, but you'd have to be pulling a lot of watts to burn up 18 gauge, if that's what they used.

I'm here...Between work and this new State of Wisconsin Fraternal Order of Police position I was elected to, I haven't been able to get much me time. :mad(

In most states, if the lights are not cycling through as they should be, as long as you wait a reasonable amount of time you can proceed through. In as far as the sensors go for emergency vehicles, watch for them to flash when they are activated. The lights don't automatically turn green for you...it takes a bit. I was running code 3 (lights and siren) to a suicidal guy with a gun going through one of cities in the county today as a matter of fact and I saw the sensor flashing, but I never waited for the light to turn green. Then again, I was going pretty fast :whistle

I thought I recall reading somewhere if you put the kickstand down directly on the ground sensor it will sense a vehicle is there.
