Problem at low revs

My 92 fzr600 gets all jumpy and jerky when I'm cruising slowly in first. It goes away once I get the toms up a bit but if just putting along it feels like it's trying to throw me off. Any ideas what the problem is? Please don't say it's the carbs

By toms : I presume you mean rpm.
A fzr engine is not designed for cruising at low rpm , keep the revs up above 3k; they were not built for pottering about.

It might be the carbs.

+1, these aren't trials bikes. The engines are designed to scream, and simply don't carburet properly below a certain rpm.

Check your chain tension; a slack chain makes it worse.
