So when I have some spare time I am going to take a piece of sheet metal and fabricate a latch, drill a couple of holes, paint to match so I can bolt on my seat cover, or remove it to put on my seat. Very good thread, I got some good ideas.

Ok. So here's what I've come up with after thinking and pondering.

First! To solve the main problem at hand which is my Mt. Dewless rides, I've come up with the idea of having some kind of belt strap that either attaches to the air vent tube, or to the fairing (illustrated with random tan tape stuff)



Second! For more trunk space, in reference to seat adjustment, I was thinking using a seat cowl somehow. It would provide more height at least which would for the room of a certain dewey mountain beverage to be stored. The only problem is, how to get the cowl to attach without the seat below it (like it normally attaches to).

I wish thinking of getting an off cut of 25mm mdf, cutting it to the shape of the void in the seat cover, placing it on the inside, then fibre glassing over it, this would the fill the void and also give you a place to fit a bum pad and seat catch. The next issue is getting the rear of the cover secure. But i think doing the same sort of thing as the front would so that problem???

Also, I'm not sure what kind of clasps and hinges are available. I'm sure there's something unique enough to secure this down, I just don't know what.

25mm thick Medium Density Fibre board. Its almost like chip board but a lot less course and bitty. I had an idea of fibre glassing another bit of mdf in place of where the seats locating lug is and the using that to secure the back, so its pretty much like the seat is terms of mounting in on the bike. I also think a bit of reinforcement woulf be needed to make the cover strong enough. Think im gonna have a play seen as the bikes off the road...

Sounds like a great idea. Also, that black foam weather stripping stuff (for windows and doors and stuff) would be great to line the edges. It'd provide cushion to make it secure and tight, and provide water resistance.

That also sounds like a good idea the only problem would be asthetic as you'd have strips of foam not a solid piece, you can buy some soft race seat foam that'll do the job, you can then cut thin strips to stop the covers edges rubbing on the paint

The PO of my second bike hollowed out the underside of the rear seat. Makes it completely useless for a passenger but would solve your issue.

If anyone wants my hollowed out seat, PM me. I have no use for it.

This whole thread was to eridigate the seat from under the cover to give a deeper space under the seat unit. Using the seat pan even without the seat foam its still the same issue. Cheers for the offer though
