I need some help regarding temperature.
So,
I start the bike, let it get up to temperature, get on it and start riding. As soon as the bike moves the needle on the temperature gauge drops to the position indicated with the red line in the picture. Is that where it's supposed to be when the bike is moving or should it be where the green line is in the picture?

Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
The air passing through the radiator will cause the needle to drop.
When you say "bike moves the needle on the temperature gauge drops". Are you saying within a few seconds ?

Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
If you are finding that the temperature is fluctuation quickly you may want to check the thermostat, possibly a broken spring.trifgeorge wrote:Within a half a minute or so; sometimes even a minute.

Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
The thing is that I already replaced the thermostat. Even so, there may be a small chance that the new one that I bought could be faulty as well. I'm going to buy another one. The thing is that I want to know where the needle should be when I'm riding. Shouldn't be where the green line is and stay there as the thermostat opens and closes to maintain the temperature?

Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
Unlikely a new thermostat would be faulty (very simple device). Where your needle sits depends on the ambient temperature, condition of the radiator, coolant used, how lean/rich the engine is running.trifgeorge wrote:The thing is that I already replaced the thermostat. My gauge usually sits around a bit above 1/2 way when putting around and drops below 1/2 way on the freeway. At the lights/traffic slowly climb to a little over 3/4 until the fan kicks in.
Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
yea. I would call this pretty normal...
Mine sits around there too, unless i am in traffic on hot day, then it goes up to about the 3/4 mark. But i personally wouldn't worry about this; Better than being too hot all the time!!

Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
The thing that I'm worried about is that the first 100 miles that I rode it this year the needle was in the middle all the time (and it was by far colder than now) no matter if I was moving or staying still. Then one day I went for a ride and the needle didn't get upper than the red line shown in the picture. I replaced the thermostat and even so it still does the same thing. If I let it idle it will get up to the green line. The fan kicks in after after 10-15 minutes after I cold start it.

Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
As the temp guage is moved via resistance, its difficult to tell where it should sit, idealy as long as the needle never gets into the red you should be fine, the needle is never accurate just to add.
Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
Seems pretty normal to me. Even here today it's in the 80's with high humidity and It sits at about half way unless I'm stopped for a while. Cool days I'm lucky if I get to the red line on that picture. I'd much rather have a cooler running bike than all that engine heat on a warm day It really has to be a hot hot day before mine will go over half again this is without much stopping. I've rode my GF R6 and my best friends CBR and they run much hotter. So be thankful I guess.

Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
I just bought another thermostat today. I'll mount it tomorrow and come back with feedback.

Re: I need some help regarding temperature.
I'm sure you've checked this, but if there isn't enough coolant in the system it won't contact the temperature sender and will result in a false reading. Make sure it's bled out properly.
