Dangit! Need camshaft help.

So I was doing my valve adjustment today and everything was going okay. I only had 1 valve out of adjustment, and and went to adjust it. Everything was still okay.
Loosen camshaft seats slowly, evenly, and carefully; check.
Carefully remove camshaft seats and mark where they go, along with all bolts; check.
Keep camshaft chain tight while carefully lifting intake cam out; check.
Keep camshaft chain tight while carefully lifting exhaust cam out; check, but the exhaust cam was a little harder to lift out.
Replace valve shim with proper replacement shim; check.
Check for foreign bodies before re-installing camshafts; che--wait, what's this?


The flange on the camshaft broke off in it's little slot. I removed the piece (can be seen in the background), but it looks like I need a new exhaust camshaft.

Thoughts? Or even better, offers from someone who happens to have a spare exhaust camshaft laying around?
I've had my bike in pieces for over a month now, mostly due to waiting on parts, and need to ride again.
Also, any Ideas of other camshafts that will work? I've heard you can use YZF600 and YZF600r camshafts in the FZR head, and looking on eBay, that just might be a viable option.

on the upside, I see 600 cams sell for cheap on ebay alot

Guess I should have posted an update. About monday night after it happened (happened saturday night), an awesome member named surgscrubfzr offered me help in the form of a used exhaust camshaft out of his race spare motor. I've got everything set out, so when it gets here, I'll be able to install it that night and hopefully test-fire the motor in a day or two.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and parts to help me get this bike back on the road again.

Just picked this up, this is VERY common on Yamaha that the cast material is very hard & brittle. The cause is the side thrust you put on the web by lifting out of square.

It is absolutely ESSENTIAL that both ends of the shaft are lifted the same amount at all times the end float (side to side movement on the cam shaft is very tight ) is very close tolerance so side force is very easy to apply

If you reckon that was bad I actually broke a cam shaft in two on an XS1000 between pot 2 & 3 an I consider myself fairly careful
I stuck it thro under warranty.!!!
