1989 FZR 250

Hi folks,

I'm a new owner of an FZR 250 in Canada. Far from mint as it's been dropped on both sides with rashes all over and bent leaver and so forth.




Few questions:

I'm missing a front signal lens. What other years/models are interchangeable as I'm having a problem finding one at a reasonable price after shipping.

The front springs seems soft. I heard I can stick some spacers in to stiffen it up a bit. Thoughts?

Nice Bike, even with the little scratches, but the Decals say its a FZR 250R instead of a FZR 250
Sure that the signals/flashers are the original ones? They look like usual aftermarket Miniflashers which are here in Germany available from 10 € per pair upwards in most common aftermarket-bike-parts and bike-gear shops depending on what manufacturer and which exact styling is wanted...if you need the flashers also as position light (which is not allowed here in germany) then you need three-wire-flashers, otherwise 2-wire-flashers should fit as replacement (pairwise if the exact style of the non-defective isn't available).

That looks like a 3LN1 model, first of the beam framed (deltabox?) bikes. Handle very well they do.

As one of the other poster mentions, your indicators do look like aftermarket ones. The rear ones on the FZR200-RR bikes are tiny little ones with square lenses and the stalk kind of goes out and upwards.

I know exactly where you are coming from with the springs. I myself am not the lightest person but they do feel very soft. Forks are 38mm diameter so I thought maybe other models may match but no luck yet. Might be worth having set made up??

My first FZR250 still hit the ton (160KM/h) with me on it and it showed up quite a few bigger bikes on a trackday at Brands Hatch under braking and cornering - the straight-line kings then had their way on their 600cc and upward bikes....

I would have thought that bike was very rare in Canada??

Forks are 38mm diameter ...

Thats also the Diameter of the 1WG first generation / 3BF/3FH all Generations and 3HH/3HE Forktubes..so if you have to exchange them, one of those should fit..the open question keeps to be the question about the position of the Brake-Holderpoints on the outer Tubes.. 3BF has a Brake-Disc Diameter of 282 mm, don't know the Diameter of the 250s, but if they're the same a swap of the complete tubes should do it's work,as for the 400s and 600s progressive and linear springs (depending on what you want to get ) are still available as new parts from promoto, wilbers and other aftermarket-manufacturers .. and at my 3BF the progressive wilbers springs do an even better job than the old original ones with my 108 kg on the bike

They weren't imported, so every example was brought over in a shipping container as a used vehicle. I'd be astonished if there were 40 of them in the country.

And yes, they are (literally) a scream - the look on the face of the cage dweller next to you when he hears that 17,000 rpm scream as you trickle through traffic in 1st gear is priceless ...
