Shredex,
I think you will find that the engine case is alloy so drill chips are non- magnetic :-}

the Tinkerer's Life is NEVER that simple canofworms
If you were really worried about it you could always get a slugger bit :

http://www.jancy.com/index.cfm?fuseacti ... ductid=112

These capture the drilled slug and minimise the amount of swarf by cutting the only the perimeter.

If you buy a Vor-tech blower system for your car, they supply one of these to drill and tap your oil pan (while it is in place) for the blower bearing return oil line.
RR,
Good Lord man we will drag these guys into the 21st Centuary & make them engineers by force. ClapHands

Sheesh I thought it was only me that had a bad tool collecting habit Nerd

Shreddex,
That dying battery problem has to be solved before you find yourself stuck someplace.then you can do a proper follow up on the clock set up.
Be brave we are all here to help out :-}

what bit did you use?? I have the bits that reelrazor was talking about, but the shanks on them are to big and will not fit my drill at all. mine will fit 3/8" shank and the slug bit has like a 5/8.

I dont remember. I just grabbed one out of the tool box that was close to the sensor diameter and drilled. Then I used JB weld and clear silicone to it.

Shredex, you'll want a 3/4" drill bit.

I know what bit size I need, its just I dont have a bit that size with a shank that will fit my drill. I was asking how the hell you drilled it without removing your whole engine and putting it on a milling machine because there the only ones with the right size shank.

NOPE,
use fleabay to look up "blacksmith drills" these come with the big taper shank turned down to round to fit a drilling machine with a chuck.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/14-0MM-BLACKSMITH ... m153.l1262

If you have a mickey mouse hand drill the chuck may be too small but most modern ones are 10mm max and the blacksmith drills I have will fit (just).

with the core borer drill RR showed I made up a holder that could be chucked up as well but that is OTT for most folks.

I'm trying to get my R6 speedo to work but I'm not having any luck. I've heard that the 00-01 R1 tach will work, is that true?
