400 adjustable fork caps question
ok, so when i bought the donor race bike, it came with progressive springs and adjustable caps. i know nothing about what they can do, and how to do whatever it is they can do! so my question is, after my ride today, the front end seemed a bit stiff, like it was set for a heavier rider. believe it or not, the guy i bought it off of was a couple inches taller and a little heavier!
surprising, i know. soooo, would turning the adjusters counterclockwise loosen it up, giving me a softer ride? this would seem correct in theory, but i really dont know. im sure changing the weight of the oil in the forks will help, but that not gonna happen this year, and i dont even know what weight is in there. i have an email into the guy i bought it off of, but i figured someone here could teach me a bit, so have at it!
I did that.

Re: 400 adjustable fork caps question
I would assume turning them counterclockwise will turn them out making it softer.

Re: 400 adjustable fork caps question
The caps are preload adjusters. The preload adjusters are to adjust the amount of sag on the front forks. Turning the preload knobs clockwise or towards the + gives you more preload and - gives you less. Of course more equals a stiffer ride. Hopefully every time you hit a bump does not end being an attempt at flight.
