FEELER - FZR400/683

Post by SilverJS »

OK, so I just finished building it, and I'm actually considering selling it... My original idea was to have something that was somewhat of a modernized FZR visually, without attempting to make it something it's not looks-wise. Also, it had to have a definite sleeper element - hence the FZR400 boldly featured below the seat, with anything but as its powerplant...=) Here goes :

1989 FZR400 (Canadian registration)
Xian_13's 683 engine (FZR600 bottom end, YZF600 top end with +1 overbore, Carillo rods, Serdi valve job, light head porting, Barnett clutch, V&H PowerPak)
YZF600 carbs with Dynojet Stage 1 jet kit, with 185 main and 35 pilot; custom FZR400 airbox adapted to fit YZF600 carbs
YZF600 rad
Full Engine Ice
R6 header with FMF midpipe/muffler in anodized blue
Fox Twin Clicker rear shock (apparently set up for 160 lbs rider)
Race-Tech 0.85 kg/mm front springs
99-02 R6 calipers, master cylinder with Galfer braided lines
Galfer wave rotors
TZR250 rear wheel (4.5X17)
Modking hydraulic clutch conversion with YZF750 master cylinder
02 R1 dash with speed sensor in crankcase (as per WIKI) - EVERYTHING works, even had the FZR400 fuel tank modified with a YZF600 fuel sensor
Sargent seat (also comes with stock passenger seat)
Sylvania Superstars
Custom painted Zero Gravity windscreen (to emulate the factory black stripe)
Tapeworks graphics
GSX-R1000 mirrors

I've also got TONS of spares : all the original FZR400 mechanical stuff (engine, carbs, etc., etc.) minus the wiring harness, as an untraceable short is what started this whole project - also, another complete YZF600 engine, one spare set of Vortex sprockets in original FZR600 gearing, and probably some more stuff I can't think of right now...

I've got a lot of time and money invested in this and I sure don't mind keeping it, but at the same time, I kind of feel I'm ready for something else. I'm ready to help with delivery. I'm in souther SK, just north of the Dakotas, but unless you're at the very extremes of the country, chances are I can deliver (I never mind a good road trip!).

Only thing is, I'm not sure how much that thing is worth...I'd like 5000$ for it, but am wondering if that's too much...?

Let's work something out if you're interested! I'm quite flexible!

Anyhow, pictures below :

Absolutely one of a kind, but not sure you'll get $5000 for it. I remember this 400 race bike going in Wisc a while ago for like, $3000 that was a similar setup. *shrug* but it goes without saying that bike is hot shit. Good luck!

Xian was selling the bike for like $3000 back then.

I was REALLY interested in it, and he had the whole GSXR750 front end, titanium hardward, 180 rear, brembo caliper in the back and I forget a whole bunch of the other stuff was selling with lots of spares as well.

This is one sweet bike, but $5000 is steep. It's not the same frame as XIANs though even though his frame had Canadian registration as well. The only reason I didn't buy it from him was because coming across the border with it would have been impossible as a Canadian since it already had a Canadian title and I would have had trouble proving ownership. But if the American owner brought it across I could have easily bought it. Is it a clean title and everything?

Sounds good - now I know. =) I appreciate the feedback, it's what I was looking for.

So I could only reasonably get 3000$ for this bike? Might as well keep it, then - for all the blood, sweat and tears...for what it's worth, it is a clean title and everything.

Road trip to ontario I'll buy it! I am having a hell of a time finding a clean title frame on this side of the border.

Where in Ontario? I'm actually heading to Kingston for a couple of months mid-April, that could work.

I am in London, Ontario. But I am probably moving to Milton, Ontario in a couple months. But both should be on your way to kingston if you cut through Canada.

Very very nice bike. I'm jealous. You suck.

Unfortunately I agree with everybody else in that $5K is too much. I'm not saying it's not worth it. To duplicate such a bike would cost at least that much, plus sweat and time. The only people that would appreciate such a bike are us enthusiasts, and we are all poor, cheap, or have our own projects. Hold on to it and keep it listed, you might find somebody wanting to do the same build that does not have the time, know how or energy.

Good luck. If you need somebody to ride it around and tell everybody how awesome it is, I'm available.

I do think the bike is worth it overall. I'm still available to ride it and tell everybody what an awesome purchase you made. Congrats.

Details on the FZR400 motor? Mileage, is it complete from valve cover to oil pan? I see you are also in Saskatchewan, that's great as I am as well.
