-To raise the tail about 1.5"-2" go with a 5" center on center. Stock length is 5.8" center on center. 1mm shorter bones will yield about 2.4mm raise on average.+
  
-I've always made mine out of 6061 T6 because it's inexpensive and strong enough.

-If your buddy can get it, go with 7075 T6. It's about 3 times as much but has almost double the strength rating. 2024 has about a 7k lb higher rating than 6061 but isn't as easy to come by and doesn't weld very well. Not that there will be welding of dogbones but....

-Make them .25" thick and then standard dimensions after that.

-The below figures should give people an idea of the strength ratings of aircraft grade aluminum. Keep in mind any of these aluminums need to be a T6 for strength. A 6061 0 will not be anywhere near as strong as a 6061 T6. All data can be found at http://www.matweb.com
