Hi bikers.
I have an old FZR 1000 model 2LA from 1988. The original rear rim is 18 x 4,5".
I would like to mount a wider tyre ( 180 ) so I have bourght a rim from a 3LE model.
This rim is 17 x 5,5".
Problem: Standard axle is 17 mm in diameter - the new is 20 mm and there is no bearing combinations available.
Allright - then I may need to change the swingarm as well. I guess a swingarm from around 1993 has the 20 mm diameter,
but will it fit in the bike frame ?? And how about the chain alignment ??
I am aware that the 17" rim may change the riding conditions, but that is not the isue right now.
Has anybody mounted a wider rear rim ?
What and how did you do it ??
If I´m not online, you are welcome to write me an email if you have a solution.
My email is: nyborg1967@hotmail.com
Hope for a little help
Thanks
Morten

Re: Wider rear rim - possibly ?
So you need a bearing that's 17x52x15... Have you tried an actual bearing supplier not a motorcycle dealer?
Re: Wider rear rim - possibly ?
the rear arm will fit and is a popular mod. FZTED over on my site fitted the exup arm to his genesis...give him a shout for details
BTW, all the 1000 EXUP arms are the same spec from 89-95 if that helps

Freestyle72 - Yes I have tried both a motorcycledealer and a bearing supplier. That kind of bearing is not manufactured.
Correct me if I am wrong, because changing the bearings would be the easiest solution.
Stig - Thanks. Great info. I will contact FZTED as soon as the administrator activates my account.
Looks like the swingarm just have been sold, but it should possibly to find another somewhere.

I've activated your account Morton, AND I may have a spare swing arm if I can find it in the garage loft. Its standard and not been modified in any way if I remember right...I'll let you know if I find it later
