YZF750 cylinder head on FZR1000 engine

Post by bluesbreaker45 »

Hey guys,

I have had this idea for some time and thought it was time to see if the forum members thought it wise.

The YZF750 cylinder head has a couple of advantage sover the FZR1000 cylinder head that I see.

1- The YZF750 cylinder head is a much more closed chamber design. This will raise the compression ratio substantially. which should give a horse power increase.
2- The YZF750 cylinder head uses "D" shaped exhaust ports. I have read many pages about cylinder head flow and several say that a "D" shaped port is ideal for best flow. This, too, should aid in getting more horse power.

The down side is while the 750 head does bolt directly onto the 1000 jugs, it does not bolt directly to the frame- the 750 has 2 holes that mount it to the frame and the 1000 has just the 1. it seems, though, that you could very easily make a plate to mate the 750 head to the 1000 frame.

One other possible down side is the YZF750 head may raise the compression ratio so much as to require race fuel.

Comments or concerns anyone? Will this work? Is it a bad idea?

Thanks,
Zack
