1994 FZR 600 using lots of oil

Post by mechman600 »

I have a chance to buy an FZR, but the guy says it is using 1/2 a liter every tank of fuel (!!!!!). He says he had the motor professionally rebuilt 4000 km ago - honed & rings & cyl head (no specifics other than that), yet it still blows oil out the pipe. No smoke, just raw oil. Can I assume the rebuild was screwed up, or is there some other thing on these bikes that can fail to cause this and has been overlooked?
I tried searching in this forum but didn't come up with any solid answers.

I may offer him a very very price and have a nice project on my hands. At least the guy is being honest.

Cheers.

Now that is alot of oil!! lol

I can only think 1) Someone forgot to fit valve stem oil seals when they rebuilt it Noob

2) Headgasket not sealing, pressurising the crankcase too high & forcing oil up the crankcase breather tube and into the airbox

Someone else may chime in with better answers. There could be any number of things......

Is the air filter ok? No sign of oil in the airbox??

If it was valve stem oil seals the oil would burn and cause smoke out the end can. Raw oil coming through the exhaust sounds like you've got oil in the exhaust but if its using oil to every tank of fuel its being sucked into the chambers from somewhere. How many miles do you get to a tank? If loads enters at once id imagine it would cut the engine. What colour is your spark plug? If its black then your definately getting oil in the chambers.

Theres one thing i've learnt with sellers you can never trust them. My old engine had been overhauled and not done correctly causing the piston to shoot out the side of the crankcase 183 miles after purchase.
