Quick R6 caliper swap questions

Post by nortstudio »

My R6 calipers & MC arrived, and I have a few questions for the swap. On the FZR stock calipers, there is a rubber cover over the top of the pads. But on the R6 there aren't any. Is this something I'm missing, or did the R6 version not have this? I've looked on a fiche, which doesn't seem to show them. But on the phone it's hard to zoom in.

Also, the R6 has the 2 hoses coming from the MC, each hitting some type of junction mount attached to the horn mount, but remaining separate. Wondering if I should try to tap the lower triple tree to mount this R6 horn doo-dad, or leave the stock FZR horn? Not sure if it will fit when the front fairing is put back on???

Also, curious what the purpose of the hollow attachment bolts are on the R6 calipers. The FZR doesn't have these.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

No boots.

Upgrade to SS lines. Chances are those rubber lines are well past their expected lifespan.

Hollow bolts for weight reduction?.... not sure.

I plan on upgrading at some point - but it'll have to wait for the cash flow to catch up. The lines look to be in great condition, and I'll keep an eye on them once pressure starts flowing through them.

Any ideas about whether the R6 horn mount is compatible? I know I'll be able to tell once I get it to the bike, but I would love to know what I'm in for.

Thanks for the response.

Decided to lose the horn mount, and stick with the stock unit.

Can anyone tell me their experience mounting the MC reservoir? The only specifics I can find is one racer who zip tied it (originally meant to be temporary, but he ended up leaving it). Another guy used a ninja MC, and bolted it to the clipon mount.

I could fab a mount for it, but I'm not sure where I would bolt it on. With the new clip ons I have, I don't have that mounting bolt to mess with.

Thanks

Not sure if it looks like the YZF600 unit, but below is how I attached mine:

Thanks Rage,

Did you tap the spot for the bolt that faces the back of the bike? I don't recall seeing that on mine.

I think I'm missing the small mount plate from the new MC, I only have the black bar that loops around. I can make something simple though.

Appreciate the help.

I believe I used a self-tapping bit after I drilled a small pilot hole.
