Tacho fuel level error code

In the states, this was the upgrade to the FZR600. In other places, this is called an FZR. Either way, many of the components of the US YZF600r fit onto the US FZR600.

Hi peeps,

So the guy who had the bike before me was getting the dreaded 8000rpm spin on the tacho to show there is an issue with the fuel level warning system. As he couldn't find the problem he has wired the switch to run permanently on RES, obviously this means the low fuel light is permanently on.

So what is the usual culprit for this error code so I can try to fix it & not rely on guessing when the tank is low on fuel?

That model has a standard switch to turn the fuel reserve on. The switch is located on the left hand side fairing hear the clip-on. If the switch is missing, you should be able to put a switch in or fix the wiring at this location to help with the fuel light.

As for fixing the tach error code. The only fix is to replace the fuel pump as the fuel sender unit has loss correct resistance. You might be able to fix it, but I haven't seen anyone try to do it successfully yet. Mine still activates the low fuel light correctly even though I get the tach error code. Just so you know, the fuel pump from the YZF750 is the exact same. This should help your search a little as there are many of both models in the UK.

Thanks cad600,

Is there anyway of doing away with the fuel switch and keep the bike/fuel light working?

The only reason I ask is, I may streetfighter the bike due to the homemade front fairing and if so I'll have nowhere to house the switch.

As far as I know of, you need the switch. But it is just a simple switch so you could add a length of wire and put a push button switch that mounts on the clip-on instead. This would keep things nice and tidy.

You could get ride of the switch like the previous owner did. But you end up with the same result you have now. Your fuel light will stay on. Now if you were use a set of aftermarket digital gauges, then it wouldn't matter as non of them out there have the capability to read the Yamaha fuel light. Best set of gauges for that are the Veypor gauges or the Koso gauges. There are others out there, but non as complete as these.

Ok so I have a few options, thanks cad600.

Another thought I've had as the YZF750 pumps seemed to be a bit low on the ground too. Is it possible to fit a T-Cat tank/pump/sender and wire it up to work with the FZR600R tacho/fuel light?

I think I'm clutching at straws though as I think the T-Cat had a manual fuel switch....

I've thought about doing that very thing myself as in theory it should be the same. However, I don't know if it really will work or not as far as the error code goes. I have a thundercat tank sitting in my garage and could wire it up to see if it will solve the issue or not.

The bigger problem is the YZF600 (Foxeye) and YZF750 use an internal fuel pump. The Thundercat does not. If you wanted to keep your fuel tank, you would need to weld a metal plate to the bottom of the tank to fill the space the fuel pump once occupied. Then you would need to drill for the fuel petcock and the sender unit and mount those. The wiring issue is the least of the problems being the THundercat uses 2 two wire plugs while the Foxeye and 750 use a single 3 wire.

"Weld"? What is this "weld" you speak of?

Cut and drill the plate to match the in-tank pump, and BOLT the sucker into position with the stock bolts and gaskets!
