MR GASKET FUEL PUMP

Post by jfrankel06 »

So my fuel pump died out on me..i cant afford the 4 hundred something dollar manufacturer one so i went on some other forums and found out to get the mr. gasket universal fuel pump 42S and use that..well i wired it in hooked up my hoses and got no fuel to the carbs..took off the carb hose and tried to crank it over to see if gas was getting through..its not..is there something else i need to do here with the mr. gasket to get it working right?

Pump running?
Hoses on properly - in/out?
Fuel tank have enough fuel?
Carb floats stuck?

Do you have it plugged in? Correctly? Is the petcock on?

I would think that as long as the fuel is pumping properly (right direction out of the pump), your only other issue would be with the carb floats sticking.

Then there is a problem with the pump or fuel moving through the pump. Could be air stuck in the fuel pump, not enough fuel in the tank, the petcock may be shut off...

Pull the fuel line out of the carbs and have it dump into a gas container. Turn the key and flip the start switch. The fuel pump should kick on and start moving fuel into the new container. Let it run like this for a while. If nothing happens, you need to make sure your petcock and fuel filter are OK as well as the tank. Then check the electricals and the relay for the fuel pump. Another thing to do here is to just wire the fuel pump directly to the battery with a set of alligator clips. This way you don't have the bikes electronics getting in the way and it will verify that the pump is working or dead. If it does move fuel and continues to do so without problem, then either your fuel line is messed up or your carbs need to be cleaned and adjusted.

You have carb issues. But you also need to do a compression test and possibly a leak down test to see if you have a good engine.
