110/60 on 3.5" rim?

I know the correct size for a 3.5 inch rim is 120/70, but I bought a new bt016 110/70 late last season (it has maybe 100 miles on it). Since then I bought and fitted an R6 front end, but the tire included is anything but usable. I know people use a 120 front on the fzr wheel, but would I be alright using the narrower 110 front tire or would I sacrifice too much lean angle by "stretching" it too much?

this doesn't sound like such a good idea, seems like it'd be much more likely to loose it's bead. I'd take the hit on a new tire of the correct size, it'll be cheaper and more fun than a hospital stay

as far as i know the stock tyre on a fzr 600 is 110/70/17. if you have the fzr front wheel in the r6 forks, the 110 tyre should fit nicely.

The correct tire size is what is listed above here. My advice would be to get an r6 wheel to complete the front end. Then running a 120 up front would be better suited. As said, you'll have no issues using a 110 but the r6 front end was not designed for it.

I guess I was being unclear. I am using an R6 front wheel with a bad 120 tire, but have a newish 110 laying around. Seems the general consensus is that it's a no go. Now off to the local forum to find me some race takeoffs...

Just go buy a new tire. There's a reason the track guy is taking the tire off his bike.

Yeah you're right. I've heard good things about the Shinko 006. Maybe I'll give that a shot.

That's a good call. You just never know what you're getting when you buy a used tire (especially one that's been shagged on the track). One could argue that a track is cleaner than the street (and I would agree) but, like I said, if a tire's being taken off a bike, it pretty much means it's near the end of it's useful (and safe) life. I've heard great things about the Shinkos and guys like Reelrazor swear by the Avons. So there are good options out there.

BTW, How's the weather up there? I actually wish I could be back there right now.

Flipper uses ex-race tyres all the time.

The reason racers take them off is that they've (the tyres) had their 10 (nominal) heat cycles and their grip will be significantly reduced. For road use this will not be a problem, as you can imagine, a road tyre could go through possibly a couple of hundred cycles in their life and still provide enough grip for the average rider

IQ, a common reason for take offs here is the tread being worn off on the sides. Not such a good idea to buy if you use the sides on the road.

The fast guys will replace theirs every weekend, or possibly every day if they're fully sponsored. Just be very sure what it is you're buying - said 'fast guys' aren't always running DOT tires, and may be running soft compound that will go off very quickly.

Another concern is the proper operating temperature - I've actually seen one or two squids here in Toronto running slicks, blissfully unaware that cold slicks actually have LESS gripping ability than a typical DOT. While the soft tire will grip wonderfully, under load it will shear and tear, sending you skittering sideways - or vertical.

ok i know im kinda butting in here but, why would using a 110 be a bad thing on a 3.5? i mean its only 10mm thinner than the 120. would 10mm spread over a half an inch really cause the tire to loose its correct shape? just wondering
