sputtering @ low rpms
i am curious as to what may be causing my bike to sputter at low rpms?
Re: sputtering @ low rpms
Is it sputtering from the exhaust, or is the bike lurching at low speed? If its actually spluttering, your probably running rich in the carbs(could be worn emulsion tubes, wrong pilot jet, wrong or missing starter jets, or air screws are way off) or a weak spark. Pull your spark plugs, they will give you a good indication of how the carbs are functioning.niquieg wrote:i am curious as to what may be causing my bike to sputter at low rpms?

there is a little backfire, and a light mist while riding. can you explain what lurching is? thank you

A lot of times, if a FZR has a loose or worn chain, at low speeds the bike will buck or lurch, kinda like if you dont give it enough gas when youre going slow and it tries to die.niquieg wrote:there is a little backfire, and a light mist while riding. can you explain what lurching is? thank you
But it sounds like you are running way rich. Its definately an issue with your carbs if its blowing a mist out. The choke may be open, or stuck. Or there may have been a failure inside that is dumping fuel. Either way, sounds like you get to pull your carbs to find out.

I had the same problem when i bought my FZR600. The air valve needles where set to high (letting through to much fuel) try dropping them down one notch if possible.
