Motorcycle Shipping reccomendations?

Post by markd »

I'm having a bike shipped from Tennessee to Los Angeles. Anybody have any recommendations on shipping companies. The guy on the other end wants to use Patriot Express, LLC http://patriotexpressllc.com/ because they do motorcycle shipping door to door, no crating and taking to freight depot at the airport or having to have it delivered to a commercial address. Anybody used them? Would hate for it to arrive messed up (or not at all). Also, what are the avg prices to ship that far?

Is there any info in the Wiki about how to properly crate and ship a bike? Maybe a "ride board" for shipping bikes/racers?

Markd,
The trouble with bike shipping is the fact it is so patchy and VERY inconsistant on pricing and requirements.
I used to ship my bike by private plane round the west indies simply because I had one available to me. Other guys rode their bikes abourd various tramp steamers that did what ever route. Some tramp steamers required it be boxed some as is. Between the UK & the west indies it had to be crated once in three trips other than that is went as is but NO gas.

Most racers sleep with their bikes going by Van / truck

May be we should add this to the wiki on a case by case basis - eventually the base will build up.

I sleep in my van at the local races, works great. But thinking about trying to go to Daytona this year and the gas my van would eat up on a cross country trip would be mind boggling, thinking it would be cheaper to ship the bike and get a cheap flight if there was a truck full of race bikes already going. Or at the very least find a ride share situation with another van.
