That dreaded 2nd gear shift......
My bike clunks a little bit when shifting into 2nd gear. Sometimes it shifts smooth, other times it does not. I read through the "how to" for 2nd gear replacement but I dont think mine needs to be replaced since its not completely out. Is there a quick fix for this?

Great clutch adjustment helps.
Plus, you could take a look at the star wheel and the actuator onteh end of the shift rod.
The aftermarket 'shift kits' are a replacement for that actuator and have a ball bearing under the roller on the end...OEM has just a roller on a pin. They help some.
It won't get better on it's own.......

So how difficult is it to install one of these? I think I can get my hand son a clutch tool and I wouldnt need any other special tools and I have a torque wrench and stuff.
This would be about almost 100 bucks shipped........is it worth it?

Well I went ahead and dropped 93 bucks to get this kit. From what Ive been reading I think this is my problem. or at least will help greatly.
Also found this PDF which is quite helpful in getting this kit installed without having to pull the clutch off. Its for a YZF600 but the FZR uses the same kit.

I went ahead and installed the shift kit. I got it done in about 2 hours. The real bitch was getting the bolt to go back in while trying to get the roller bearing underneath the star gear whil ehaving the spring compressed. I did it all with just common tools. A # 10 socket and a # 10 open end wrench. I used the instructions above. I put just a dab of loctite on the cam bolt. Seems there was a little bit on there already. Didnt want to over do it.
Shift is alot firmer. but I read the spring will let up a little bt once it gets used. The second gear shift is now firm and positive. Overall happy with it. Cost me 94 bucks shipped.
Thanks for the recommendation Sweekster.
