i need some help asap!

Post by 89fzr600rr »

so on my bike (89 fzr 600) it is common for the voltage regualtor to crap out pretty regularly ( once a season if you dont upgrade to a newer R6 joint THANKS AGAIN CHRIS!).

my lights and gauges have been dimming in and out at night and i dont like that so i took out my battery to check out the levels and like 3 of the cells were wicked low so i topped them off and took it to advanced to get it tested just to make sure it was ok.. they ran the diagnostic on it and it checked out so i happily took it home and hooked it back up...

cranks right up... idles fine.. everything works great but now when i go to rev it real quick it bogs and stalls... but if i just gradually rev it up its good to go.

another factor i was thinking of was that it wasnt warmed up yet (and it being and old bike) i thought this might be that type of problem.

i was also thinking that the battery being freshly charged that it might have killed the vr ( it felt a little warm after not running for very long) and that it might have affected the fuel pump maybe?

im a complete rookie when it comes to bikes so any help pointing in the right direction would be fantesticals

Well, if your battery checked out good then that is step one. Next, I would let it warm up before you throttle up. The VR is going to get warm thats how they are. You should not have to replace it every year.
My bike is doing the same thing but I dont ride a lot at night to make a difference and my battery is brand new. I also tried a new vr so I know thats not the problem. Wow, we have the same issues. I think its a wiring issue or to much or to little amps some where.
I just have not taken the time to figure it out. It runs great though.

Do you have any stumbles when you're riding?
From what you said, it definatly sounds like it's not warmed up all the way. I also recommend checking for any vacuum leaks around the throttle bodies and airbox.

Is that when you're riding or revving it while it's not moving?

I doubt it has anything to do with the battery. It is probably just coincidence. Chances are it's just running a little rich... You could always add some seafoam and clean out the carbs if they haven't been rebuilt in a while.
