1989 FZR1000 tire combinations

Post by ScottW »

Hello,

Was wondering what tire setups have been successful on the 1989 FZR1000 (since the original front tire size 130/60-17 is no longer available).

Any insight would be great...

I don't know where you may be in the World, but a quick check of Google shows several suppliers near me with the size in stock.

USA. The tire size is 130/60-17 not 130/70-17.

Sorry, my fat fingers. Certainly for the UK the choice is narrower, but first place I checked had one.

What size tyres did the Thunderace take?

Thanks for checking. I have not had much luck finding that tire size here. That coupled with the outdated rear size (170/60-17) it has been fruitless.

With that said, I would imagine many folks have gone to a different setup considering most the new lines of tires (such as the pilot 3's) are suited for today's superbikes. Only offering 120/70's and 180/55, 190's for the rear.

I'm sure I can't be the only one that has dealt with this dilemma. That's why I was hoping for some insight into other combinations that have been successfully tried.

Any feedback would be great. If not, I may try a standard setup for today's superbikes and try pilot 3's in a 120/70-17 with a 180/55-17 and see how it feels.
