what's it worth?

Post by jeremy »

Hey all,

I was thinking of MAYBE selling my bike towards the end of the season. Just kinda looking for a ballpark of what she is worth. I would love to keep this bike and get another, but I can't afford it.

Anyways, here is some info.. Not much to list

1992 FZR 600
red,black and white color scheme.
99% stock

-3rd owner.
-21,000KM.
-Few nicks here and there.
-Looks like the past owner tried to polish the covers, which I am told are NRC's.
-Mirrors changed to YZF units. Stocks available.

Extras

-Brand new NRC stator cover
-New OEM side cover (oil).
-Brand new Maeir single headlight fairing. Not painted.
-Maier solo seat cap. Bought new and painted. The color is a little off, but I can provide more paint to repaint it.
-Brand new Flanders flush mount signals. Not installed
-Used 05 R6 untertail with lights. Blue in color.
-Crappy honda bike cover.
-99 R6 tail with chunk out of it. Not to bad to repair.

Pic.

I'd guess you could expect $1,800 to up to maybe $3,000 USD. A lot of it depends on how firm you are with the price and how long you're willing to hold out. You shouldn't even consider the extras as part of the price because no buyer will. It's also heavily dependent on the demand in your area (Canada? you weird metric people).

She looks mostly pristine so that always works in your favor when negotiating a sale.

I would say between $2500-$2800 depending on where you live. In my area thats what you could expect.

You were also under a serious time constraint to sell it. That always works against you. Every buyer knows you get the best deals from people desperate to move their item.

Patience is a serious virtue when it comes to buying or selling equity items.

Quite pristine for the mileage. Assuming it still runs pretty well I'd say $2500 and lowest I would go is $1800.

Nice bike.

I agree with Yam on the pricing.

A lot of people are overpricing their FZRs since motorcycles are being used more for transportation, but they aren't necessarily getting what they're asking either.

If you want to sell, do it now instead of waiting. No one wants to buy a bike in the winter. You'll have to drop the price if you do that.

Sell it early to mid spring when everyone else just starts riding. That gets people motivated.

I don't believe the Flanders fit the 91/92 single headlight models, so you might want to sell those separate.

Very clean bike. To the right person you could probably get 2600.

Thanks for all the input guys. I still don't know if I want to let the bike go. I really like the FZR and it's in excellent shape, both cosmetically and mechanically.

It's actually a rare bike. Only made 2 years, that style is sought after since it resembles some of the newer bikes with the single headlight design.

Plus, with the condition that it's in, it would make a nice collector's piece.
