First Group Ride on the FZR 600

Had it out yesterday with a couple of newer bikes - a 600 and 1000. And it was great. Love riding in nice weather. The FZR did better than I thought. But I stil have a few issues to sort out.

Engine

Cold starts are difficult. If I hold the throttle while starting, it fires right up. Fixing the choke will help. At idle I smell raw fuel which makes me think its running rich. And at full throttle, it spits flames out the exhaust. Also, when I accelerate hard, the rpms increase, there is a slight lag, then the it really takes off. It doesn't seem like a bog. Maybe the clutch is beginning to slip?

I will start by replacing the pods with the factory airbox, installing new plugs (NGK Iridium unless theres a better value), and turning in the carb miixture screws a bit, if needed.

As far as I know, the bike is stock except for the full exhaust and K&N air filter that will go in.

Handling

Sometimes the steering and rear tire feel unstable. I notice it most on roads with dips and in turns. It makes me nervous and I try not to lean much. A new tire (150/60/17) may help the rear. The pressure in both tires in fine.
