I have my carbs appart. Long story short i needed one pilot jet So i ordered one under the impression it was mikuni (MADE) but it turned up and its a aftermarket one. So i politely bagged the vendor (by email) and threw the jet in the bin. Personally i dont like aftermarket jets. So he politely replyed, and sent me this link. It hasent changed my mind at all but the artical is interesting and next time i get jets, i will get the lot (12)in one place. Just thought id share this with youz. Cheers Coops http://www.saltmine.org.uk/martin/jet_sizing.html
Coops,
Well it is nice to know that the info on my site is of use and being utalised as intended.
Martin does state, i have verified by test since i posted that on the site, that there is a VERY wide discrepancy in flow rates even from the same manufacturer.
I did the tests as i could not make out why one particular blue printed engine was so good at the bottom end and so poor on a virtually identical engine, swap carbs perfect on the second engine crap on the original. jet sizes were "identical" until I did the flow test. The good set of pilot jets were flowinf nearly 10% more fuel.
I had to go up a size and the flow test about 9 or so jets to get the same flow rate but this time about 5% down despite alledgedly 10% on size upgrade.
I hope you sort out your problem with the jets but just because it is OEM original size does not mean diddly squat except as a place to start for your testing.
Enjoy your Christmas and have a good riding year in 2013
