It is possible that your CDI is low on magic juice. The thing that sucks about a bad CDI is there's no way to test it without a full blown electronics bench.

Im going to try a CDI box a buddy is sending me to try......If it fixes it I will post it.....

That was my next guess. Thats the problem with my techs out there is they guess to much because they dont know how to use a multimeter but you said you tried everything so thats what I would try.

Yea, I know a multimeter very good, I use one nearly everyday workin on these dang Dodge's.......The guy who is letting me use a CDI is a member on here but I dont know if he wants anyone knowing he is sending me one.....(he pm'ed me) instead of posting it so im not tellin.....But anyhow Ive done voltage drops on all the wires going to and from the CDI, Load tested the B+ leads, and Im finding nothing.....Like LUKE says....without a bench tester for CDI's there is no way to test them.......

I had the same issue after I painted my bike and it say for 2 weeks. After I charged the battery it made a weird noise when I tried to start it( like a bolt in the engine ) .It would not crank. I cleaned the sparkplugs and somehow i got it to start.. Crazy is all I can say..

"GOOD LUCK" is right......Im ready to have it fixed though......Im driving it everyday to work which is 30 miles 1 way and its been running fine...just cant start it....I got gas today and had to push it off......Its really getting old....

Well I have put a known good CDI on it on guess what?...........................................................NO DIFFERENCE!! .... Today Ive put 135miles on it......Runs great just wont start....and just for the "HELL" of it, I swaped the new battery in on another new one and no difference. ....... And its not charging..even with the new finned vr on it...so I may need a statot if antone has one....but that isnt my starting prob....THANKS GUYS!!! Time for another "BUD LITE"

seriously though, have you tried checking the connections on the pickup coil plug? maybe the connections on the plug just need to be cleaned. Pickup coils are usually good or bad, but if you want to check it anyway, put an ohmmeter on it, it should read between 135 to 165 ohms. If the plug connections look dirty, scrape them with something small and sharp.

maybe the pickup coil isn't putting out at crank rpm's (500ish rpm) and when you push off the engine spins faster so the pickup actually puts out what it's supposed to at around 1k rpms, maybe the connections on the plug are dirty..i don't know. but since you've check it and it's below 135, i'd change it.

Its not charging that good either...So I guess I need a stator and pick-up.....Does anyone have one?

Ok guys, I fixed it......I replaced the new battery with another new one, new stator & pickup, new rectifier...Starts and runs great........????? hell of a problem... Got the stator from electrolux...in CA..

either the 96 is the last year they made carbureted 750s, or it's the first year they made fuel injected 750s..I don't remember. if it's fuel injected i'd go for it, if it's carbureted, i'd go by what shape its in, or if it's been dropped. it has about 130 hp, thats a pretty good step up from the fzr with 96 hp.

hey, i have to ask, i've never had the stator cover off, can you advance the timing on the fzr? or can it not be adjusted?
