I read the article you linked, and saw several aspects requiring caution. Even if you do everything right, there is still the generation of H2 gas. If you use the wrong materials, there is the danger of caustic burns, chromium poisoning, etc.

A simple, cheap way of cleaning the tank; I'll likely be doing my tank over the winter - but Mark is quite correct to point out the need for care.
