Similar thing happened to a guy I graduated high school with. From what I was told, he was going around a blind sweeping left then right. The road basically sweeps over a bit then back to regain it's original westward direction. Well, there's a gas station right in that blind spot. I guess some lady pulled out of the gas station to to enter the road and he basically t-boned her. I knew him fairly well since he and I were both into cars back then so we hung out every now and then. He was 20 years old also. I saw him riding his bike quite often without a helmet (MN - no helmet law) but as a previous poster more or less said, probably wouldn't have done a whole lot of good even if he was wearing one. I wasn't there but I'm guessing he was taking the curve too fast because at a legal speed there's plenty of time to see and be seen at that spot.
