I didnt use the fjr I used the R6 but as soon as I get home I will look. If you didnt get the tach box then the y/b goes straight to the tach box I think. Ill try and look at lunch time today.

Ok I have figured somethings out

FZR Gauge pigtale

yellow/black........ turns to gray on bike side of wiring harness
black.........ground...... nothing to attach it too.

On the FJR speed sensor.....Trying to match the FJR wiring harness that match posted

white...... signal
black/blue.....Grnd I think
blue/yellow.....I think this is switched 12v from guages

On the R6 digital guage pigtale

yellow/black....... connects to the yellow/black on the FZR harness then to the gray. So is this current comming from the CDI? this is where I need to splice in the magic white box. Gray to white on white box , then green on white box to gray going to tach....right?

still questioning these last two?????

black/blue........temp sending unit or ground???
blue/yellow.....speed power.... to blue/yellow on speed sensor

Some other questions:

What guage wire are you guys using? I bought some 20, should I go with 18 or 16 instead?
And I stoped by Radio Shack today to pick up a resistor and they had 1k ohm in anything from 1 watt to a 1/4 watt, which wattage should I buy?

this one seems tricky, i just looked at that wiring diagram, all of those wires from the fjr speed sensor run to the ecu. without having an fjr on hand to test the ground, i wouldn't even know where to begin, aside from trial and error. On the FJR speed sensor, either black/blue or blue/yellow could be ground. If I were you, at this point I would go with the R6 speed sensor since it's already been done and just follow the instructions for what is known to work. Plus i was just comparing the r6 and the FJR wiring diags, and the speed sensor wiring is routed differently(page 369 in r6 pdf). The FJR has the two wires that either one could be ground, and both wires connect to a lot of the other sensors(all of the same sensors), and the other wire runs straight to the ecu, then the gauge cluster gets its speed info from the ecu. speedo is not directly connected to the sensor. But the r6 has one wire that appears to be a ground, another wire that splits and runs to the cdi and the gauges, and another wire that runs to the gauges.

If i had to guess based off of what i see between the two diags, i'd say they were two completely different systems. FJR speed display is determined by the ecu. and R6 speed display is determined by a "mini-ecu" inside the gauge cluster. It might work if you knew how to wire it, but there isn't really a real feasible way to find out how to wire it.

Through trial and error with the wires, you might end up frying the gauge display, or causing some electrical problem that gives you an incorrect speed reading, landing you a speeding ticket for going 30 over (class c felony here) when you were just going 20 over according to your gauges. It's digital, and doesn't require much current, so a mistaken wire connection might cost you, whether it be a ticket, or just buying another gauge cluster.

what gauge wire to use? i'd use the same that yamaha used.

go with the r6 speed sensor, i was looking at the writeup, it seems simple enough.

btw, i was wondering, where is the speed sensor on the fjr? is it on the front wheel? is that why you decided to use it?

p.s. WOOHOO!! my avatar thing doesn't say i'm a "site newbie" anymore..yay 50 posts! dude i hated seeing "site newbie" all the time...ugh
