I used Turtle Wax Rubbing and Polishing compounds with no issues; "Wax Paste" doesn't sound familiar though... I believe that is a different product.

I used "Turtle Wax T-241A 10.5 Oz White Polishing Compound" I also like the Turtle Wax Polishing Compound that comes in a black bottle; its good for quick touch ups after a wash.

The real trick here is the same thing with wet sanding: You should only use VERY Light Pressure; if you can feel or hear scratching or rubbing, you're pushing too hard or (in the case of wet sanding) you need more soap/water mixture -wet sanding should be Very Wet *the soap simply helps lubricate.

Also after using the rubbing compound I wash the surface with water to remove any residue. Practice and Experiment. Good Discussion!

Here is a picture of an old Suzuki I painted with Rustoleum Stops Rust Enamel followed by Wet Sanding/Rubbing/Polishing and maybe waxing... <-- not sure about wax

Sadly this is the best picture i could find... But you can see how shiny and reflective it was.

Wow! That looks great! How long did it take you to get that shine? Layers of enamel used, how much wet sanding? Hopefully mine would look as good as that! (When I get to it of course lol).

It was Probably 3 coats of the red enamel.. As for the wet sanding and polishing: It all depends how good a job you did painting. If you laid down very smooth thin coats of paint the finishing wont be hard; also you won't need to wet sand.

Wet sanding would be needed to smooth mistakes, orange peel, bugs, Ect... But hopefully these dont exist in the final color coat. Rubbing compound and polishing: I've always done both by hand because I didn't own power tools; but with that said it took around an hour probably.

Again it's all about how well every step upto the polishing went. It's not hard just take your time.
