New here, few questions

Post by ktha »

Just picked up a 1988 genesis. It rides fine but I got a few problems. After riding and coasting to a stop, the RPM will be around 1800. No acceleration issues and it will sometimes drop down to around 1100.It actually idle at 1100 on warmup idling. Havent checked anything on the bike yet so any leads? There is another problem i just noticed to day also. The temp gauge will fluctuate when I accelerate, especially on bumps. Itll even out when I get to higher speed. What could cause that? Thanks ahead.

Bad wire connection on the sensor in the front of the rad for the temp gauge as a possibility, wire on my 89' is a bullet connector and i had to squeeze it closed with some pliers so that it wasn't so loose. Carbs could just need a serious cleaning and set-up, check for threads on Emulsion tubes and wear.

high RPM may be an air leak, spray some easy start around the inlets and rubbers...if the revs change its dragging air in somewhere. Chesk the carbs are seated correctly too and that the choke mech isnt sticking
If its not broken it dont need fixing
