aftermarket tci

Post by pointybum »

Sooo pretty sure i fried mine, tci that is. Haven't confirmed it yet, only have time to work on it on the weekend :/. Buttttt i have been looking to my options on getting it back road worthy.
One was an aftermarket tci that is programmable. So it would be a mod that follows along the lines of the v&h powerpak(to give you a idea of what i am talking about). But those are super hard to find and usually expensive when you magiclly spot one, and also aren't that tunable.

After searching a bit i have found http://www.ignitech.cz/en/
more specifically ignitech tcip4 model. I searched the site and saw one or two members have also run the product line but chose to get a different model, the sp3. As far as i can tell from the detailed description of the two, both are fully tuneable, the only difference is the sp3 has n2o control and cost more(not really useful for me). So if i do get it ill opt out for the tcip4.

Which according to their site is 154 + 7 + 51 = 212 So unit + pigtail + tps sensor . For reference used stock tci on ebay are 200 and i have yet to find anyone on the boards with one. There was a fellow kind member willing to fix mine for 100 but for a bit more i could have this serious upgrade.

Now my biggest concern here is not the wiring. That will be cake for me and their guide on the website is pretty dang good. Figuring out what my timing should be set at is what i can not grasp. Sure i can find base timing ....but after that i am lost without a knock sensor or some way to tell me i have too much timing. What is the old school way to know timing?(besides aduible knock..because that is a wayyy to late way for me to know i have too much timing. The damage has been done) Also i would have to find a way to put a tps sensor on the carbs.....Lastly i feel i should mention this is "alpha n" style tuning so rpm vs load(tps input) and that should be every bit of crazy information rolling around in my head. haha

Before you even say it, yes i would get more power out of a r6. I know dumping tons into this bike is not economically worth it. But it was a gift from a good friend and I refuse to sell it So those kind of comments are not needed here.

ok soooo looking even more into it turns out i do not need a tps(though it would make everything work so much better and part throttle power would be amazing). It has features to run a rpm based timing map.....now my next biggest issue is i have no idea what the timing map would be.
I can easily find base timing. I have tried contacting v&h to see if they will lend me the map they used on the powerpak(lol worth a shot). I also tried pming the one or 2 members who ran a megasquirt(because they also had to run their own timing maps). But none of them have been on in years so it isn't very likely they will respond either. Anyone else have any ideas to figure out what the stock timing map is?

Is anyone smart enough to do something like this? He was able to find max timing by just looking at the flywheel. Maybe if i had a range of numbers i should stay within that would help a bit.

I have nothing to add but I really like where you are going with this. I've been looking at of those Sparker TCIP4's for some time and think they are a really good idea. I'd get one if I didn't already have a V&H PowerPak. So order the thing and go with their stock settings, then figure out how to modify later.

This (URL) is part of a FZR600 factory manual, open the link then scroll down to page 15, the stock timing curves are there. The top graph is non Cali, bottom is Cali models.

well ignitech are super slow to respond, and just from downloading the software for the tcip4 it did not have stock settings for our bike preprogrammed in. I didn't want to order one without at least the stock map to start from.

now the next thing on my mind(besides finding the v&h powerpak timing map) is a sutible carb upgrade that came with a tps, because like i said before the tps would make part throttle amazing. I noticed the later yzf600 came with one, also some fcr came with a tps(not ours) you know just to list a few somewhat similar carbs with tps. Most likely I'll do some measurements on my parts carb(cyclinder spacing) and the spacing inbetween the frame to see how much room there is to fit something else, and find whatever is cheapest on ebay.lol

You can safely advance the ignition timing by 5 Degrees through out the timing curves on an aftermarket TCI. Read this in the WIKI.

I did that mod over 2 years ago. No pinging or detonation knock, but a lighter front wheel, faster acceleration.

BTW your welcome

Factory Pro sells a 5 degree timing advancer for the FZR600 so that'll confirm what Mikey is saying. Of course ideally you want it to be variable but it's a good start. If only V&H would reveal their ignition curves for the various settings on their PowerPak.

More excellent information. I have a factory pro advance(not installed) and was gonna add timing across the boards because i figured it was safe, seems like everyone else agrees. But yes v&h would be my hero if they ever get back to me on their timing maps.

bad news: v&h got back to me and did not have the map anymore because it has been discontinued for years...they were rather suprised i even asked because no one has shown interest in years.lol

good news: ignitech same day replied to my email(everything i read online said they were super duper slow about that). Seems to be about 230ish to have everything sent to my door. 153 + 7 + 13 + 54 = 227. tcip4 + universal connectors + data cable(to talk to computer) + shipping. So we are working out the final details now and making sure this is everything i need and it should be headed my way shortly
