thermostat

Post by 68sweetnlow »

finally got the bike on the road runs good. except high rpm studder about 9500 rpm on long hard pulls and bike is running cold temp. pretty sure thermostat is stuck open or it has been taken out. wondering if there is a automotive one that fits and functions the same or am I going to have to drop 60 bucks on factory one. also the studder thinking running lean on the main jets. running a fairly open exhaust and k&n air filter. Any thoughts or suggestions?????????

If you are not jetted for the K&N and open exhaust you most likely are lean. Any idea what your jet sizing, needle number and clip positions are.?

Since you are planning on pulling the thermostat anyway, why not do it now and see if it really is stuck open.

Jetting on the main jets are107.5 i got 2 other sets of carbs and they have the same size. Ive not messed with the needles or seen where they were set at. Thinking the needles are ok at the postion they are in now, it being so far in the R's. I plan on replacing the thrermostat but seeing if there is one out of a car that will fit and serve the same as a oem, being oem from dealer is 50 bucks and some change and most typical cars are under 10 bucks. the ol man runs a car thermostat in is vfr...... reason why im asking

Sorry, I meant why don't you pull out the thermostat and see if it is stuck open. If it's not then there's no need to replace it. What I wrote sounds like I said to just go ahead and replace it.

Maybe if you take it out you can bring it to an auto parts store and try to match it. Actually, ebay has a couple of thermostat housings for about $10. Just ask whether or not the thermostat is inside.

Found one at parts store well trans went all to crap the other day ( wouldnt shift past 2nd). Sence it wasnt a strong one i swapped motor out from my parts bike. Come to find out its popping out of 2nd and 3rd under hard pulls. But put thermostat in and seems to be warming up and running up to temp.
