1988 carburetor diagnosis

Post by screagles »

took a video of the carbs on my 1988 fzr 1000 and am stuck as what to do next. There is a gas leak at the input T valve so I gotta replace those O-rings.

When I turn the throttle, the carbs bog down and spray upwards. Why is this and what should I do?

Thank you VERY VERY much for any help provided.

I'd say you have one or more float valves stuck open, and you're flooding. Time for a thorough strip, clean, and rebuild of your carbs. Hit up Maelstrom for a set of internal gaskets and seals.

tight inlet valves can also cause you to blow fuel vapour upwards if you dont have air being forced into the cylinders...i would check you valve clearances, inlets especially.
as for the fuel leaking its either what don said - knackered fuel float, or your floats are set too high so they dont have a chance to seal, you will need to remove the carbs, take the backs off and have a look...it sounds massively rich.

Sorry - maelstrom is his handle on the various bike sites. This is the link to his site. He doesn't have a kit up yet for the '88-89, but drop him a line, see what he says.
