So I have the opportunity to purchase two 1ks (95 and a 92?) from a guy here in mo. One runs and is jetted he claims and the other is a parts bike. Both with titles. $2000 Anyway the long story is that the 95 has had the clutch replaced recently and he says the oil pump has pulled up a few shavings from the clutch. So I remember reading from the forum about soaking the friction plates in oil and also some people used scotch brite on them first. Say you didn't do that. Is it plausible that bits of metal would get in the pump like that. And then the likelyhood of me being able to clean it all out of the filter. Now you guys know me. I have no problem tearing a bike down to nothing to check it out. But I wanted to get a second opinion since I have yo sell my 600 first to buy them.

Soaking the new friction plates prevents glazing during the early run-in. Scotch-brite is to remove glazing, whether from re-used frictions or from re-used steels. In neither case should noticeable 'chunks' / flakes / slivers be coming off, and in neither case should these plates be re-used without a good cleaning. Noticeable metal debris in the oil pan or pump or filter is generally due to significant mechanical damage that the plates really shouldn't see.

i'd be more concerned that the pump was blocked....and then the fact that the lump may have been starved of oil///something the seller may have FORGOTTEN to consider or pass info onto yourself
