Drain plug and overheating

Post by mrtim77 »

Hello.

I'm getting a G reg EXUP back on the road for a mate of mine.

Issue 1 - When I remove the drain plug, no oil drains!!!???

Issue 2 - Coolant reservior at the back is boiling like a kettle. I flushed the system out, so I know there's no leaks or blockages. New coolant added.

Any suggestions greatly received.

check the rad cap is sealing correctly as they allow the coolant to boil at a higher temperature with the system being under pressure. If the cap leaks it will boil earlier and you could always do a compression test too.

As for the oil...or lack of it!!!, many use a bit of oil (not all ) The previous owner may not have kept an eye on things and run it dry, which'll do it no good. Check the oil light works in the dash as its a level guage not pressure. It should light up temporarily on cranking
If its not broken it dont need fixing
