The oil light is wired via the "Main Relay Assembly" that incorporates the fuel pump relay, the starter safety cut-out relay (can't start in gear with the clutch out), and a few diodes. It is possible that the diode is toast, one of the pins is toast, the traces on the PCB is toast, or the oil level switch itself is toast / stuck.

Throw the incandescent bulb back in for the oil lamp, see if that works.

Good call. I will try that tomorrow.

I tested the kickstand switch, and that worked, but maybe that is on a different relay. I didn't try the clutch one. I think the pump is working though. Maybe I fried that part with all my testing???

Thanks.

The oil lamp ground (Black/Red) wire connects obviously to the oil LEVEL switch, and the main relay. The only time the oil lamp illuminates is when

1. The oil level is low

2. When the start button is pressed

The latter is merely a circuit test (so you know the bulb/LED and circuit work) the main relay takes care of that, and is the only reason the ground (Black/Red) wire is connected to the main relay.

I think your confusing the oil LEVEL switch with a oil pressure switch I could be wrong tho. If not with an oil pressure switch the warning lamp is illuminated when the ignition is switched on, it goes off when the engine starts. An oil LEVEL switch is off when the ignition is switched on, it only illuminates when the oil LEVEL is low, or in our case when the start button is pressed.

Hit your start button, does the oil lamp illuminate?

Sorry, should have posted back. I got that clarification by doing some google research (I am accustomed to oil pressure sensors, not level). But as far as I could tell, the light was not working even with the start button hit. I was indoors though, so maybe I didn't see it flash on/off quick in the light...

To be clear: it's only on when the start button is pushed, not when the power is sent to the bike and kill switch is in the "run" position?

I will double check tomorrow - and if it's still on the fritz, next I will try the typical bulb real quick to see if that does it for some reason.

Appreciate the response and clarification.

Ignition on, run/stop switch on, hit the start button, the oil lamp should illuminate.

Yep, pretty sure I would have seen it - but I'll hope for the best.

Thanks for your help - and everyone else too. Just the fact that I returned today after these posts and got them all working but one felt like a huge victory.

If the oil lamp still doesn't work when you hit that start button.

Unplug the main relay. Switch the ignition on, run/stop on. Then on the 11 pin plug you disconnected from the main relay find the Black/Red wire/connector, jump it to ground. The oil lamp should illuminate.

If not there's a problem in the wiring or your LED.

IF the lamp illuminates there could be a problem diode or a poor connection in/on the main relay.

Thanks for all your help folks! Tested the light this morning, and it's working just as it should. I guess I wasn't seeing the instantaneous flicker while working with the gauge sitting strange in daylight.

I really do appreciate all the great guidance here on the site.

Now to make the final mount look a little nicer....
