Hi all,
I have a 'hopefully' simple question regarding my 95 fzr600 4jh, in particular, the fuel pump.
I purchased the bike as a non starter but soon determined that the cause of the lack of starting was no fuel getting to the carbs
I have read numerous posts about the fuel pumps but they all seem to relate to fuel pumps mounted externally to the the tank itself, mine is an 'in-tank' type
Having removed the whole unit from the tank to check for any sort of blockage, I replaced it and tightened all the screws tightly but now, excuse my French, fuel pisses out, apparently from the rubber? seal between the unit and the tank.
Would it be good practice to replace that seal? I'd guess so but I've searched online and fleabay and no joy.
Also most posts mention a two wire connector, but mines a three.
I've got a Haynes but nothing in there seems to relate to mine, although I've seen this mentioned on various forums, that is the 1995 4jh is a one off
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help forthcoming and if anyone knows of a good, and reasonable mechanic in the Croydon area, that would be a help too
Cheers

Re: Fzr600 4jh fuel pump question
The part number for the 'Seal' is 4FM-2414G-00-00; any Yamaha shop should be able to get it in. This is the same part used on the YZF750. The '95-96 FZR600R "Foxeye" (4JH code) were referred to in the US as the YZF600, which may be why you aren't finding as much as you should. As you noted, the 4JH bikes were only out for the two model years before being replaced by the 4TV YZF600 Thundercat, which again makes it harder to find info.

Thanks a million, its really very much appreciated....
I have seen numerous posts about the Foxeyes different names here and in the US, just adds to the fun/confusion of owning one eh ?
Thanks again

Re: Fzr600 4jh fuel pump question
While I have your attention and seeing as you know what Im actually talking about, regarding the pump assembly itself, could you tell me roughly the components that make it up ?
Id guess there is the actual pump itself inside the tank but what is the bit on the outside, that has the two fuel pipe connections ?
Is it just that, a place to attach the pipes or is it additionally a filter of some sort, I did take that apart also and there was a small gasket of sorts and Im starting to wonder if I need to replace that as well??
Its hard to tell exactly which component is letting the fuel leak past.
And while we are at it, I can see the larger of the two fuel pipe feeds goes off to the carbs, but where does the smaller pipe go and what does it do ?
I did start to trace it but the leaking fuel all over my garage floor kind of took my attention slightly
Aside from all these questions, leaks and gaskets I still have (I think) a problem with the pump, so I also need at some stage to check/replace/fix that!

Re: Fzr600 4jh fuel pump question
The two-port dingus on the bottom is called the 'Fuel Cock Assembly'; the gasket that seals it is 'O-ring' 4X8-24512-00-00. The larger port is as you say the fuel outlet, with a hose, filter, hose, carbs. The smaller port is I *think* a vacuum on/off valve that is connected to the carb boot on the #4 (outer right) cyl.

Re: Fzr600 4jh fuel pump question
Hello again,
I have now tested the fuel pump by basically running a direct feed from the battery and not a sound so I am assuming its dead, looking on fleabay, I can only find one and they are wanting about £50 which is, at the moment anyway, a bit out of my budget, especially when its not a new part and could well be in the same state as mine despite them listing it as working.
I have seen other posts where people have replaced the stock pumps with a universal 12v petrol pump, although this is normally replacing an external (to the fuel tank) pump, where as mine is internal.
My cunning plan is to leave the old pump in place or at least the bottom plate (to obviously the block up the massive hole in my tank where it goes) and to let gravity feed the petrol from the tank, and then into one of these after market pumps and let that move it to the carbs.
Much like Baldricks, my cunning plan may well be c##p, but I would like someone with more technical knowledge than me (not hard) to highlight the potential problems before I go ahead or to totally dismiss it if thats the case.
Thanks in advance as ever
