Brake pads not worn in properly

Post by Kyle844 »

Ok so the easiest way to describe is with pictures.

Image

When riding normal and also when applying the front brake, the bike rides straight and normal. When I apply the rear brake I get the sensation that the rear wheel shifts over like an inch then continues going straight. Now this is what I'm wondering, That my wheel was mis-aligned when I put new brake pads on the rear, right before going on a 1,600mi road trip and i think they wore in wrong. I just finished setting chain tension and aligning the wheel and i still get that sensation. If you guys do agree that it is brake pads that have been worn in with a slight "Slant" to them, do you think gentle pressure and use of the brake should be used until it wears even?

It's not the brake pads. The brake caliper is located by it's bracket that the axle slides thru. The caliper will stay in line with the wheel-regardless of whether or not the wheel is aligned with the bike.

My gut feeeling is that you have a bearing issue most likely..either in the wheel, or in the swingarm pivot. Get to looking closely at the rear swingarm and wheel assembly.

(this is of course after you verify proper alingment of the rear wheel).

And, many many things make weird 'feels' happen. Try engine braking hard and see if you get this same feel.

That short amount of riding you did without the spacer could of f'd up the bearing.

Delvry,
You probably are correct. I still have my homemade spacer in there now but it doesn't work as perfect as the part i'm missing. Anyone want to donate =]
