FZR 600 Front Brakes

Post by rustys »

Hi Guys,
I'am setting up my 1989 FZR 600 for a Race bike, the single pot brakes are not that great when it comes to stopping in a Race situation, can anyone advise me, does a two pot caliper from a 1992 FZR 600 bolt straight on. Or do you have any other sudgestions, help much appreciated.
We run Pre 89s in Junior Post Classic racing over here in NZ, a great class to be in. The Junior class is up to 600cc then we have a Senior from 600 up, we run both classes together makes for some great Racing.

I believe the four pot calipers from post '89 FZR's do not bolt on the the 89 lowers. You'll either have to make an adapter plate or find some decent lowers to swap in since they are identical except for where the calipers bolt on.

Agreed

What he said. You'll want 90+ (not sure if Aus and NZ got he FZR600 past 93) fork lowers to use the 4 pots without an adapter.

With front end swaps being in vogue you should be able to find late model forks or at least lowers for sale. It would be worth it to put some blue dot calipers on it.

If he is running the class I think he is, then swapping the front end isn't allowed.

Thats right sweekster, has to be pre 89 forks, i can only change the calipers to better brakes. There seems to be plenty of 92 four calipiers on E-Bay but i need to know that they fit.

As Blensen and Sweekster said, the 4-pot calipers will not bolt right up. The mounting boss spacing is wider on the 4-pot fork lowers.

Ah...so you're probably running against Mossy then. He runs a white fzr1000. He's also a member here. Are you allowed to run a different master cylinder?

Hey you know something !!!! Mossy is in "Post Classic Senior" with the thou, unfortunatly with the money he spent on that bike he was still getting his arse kicked from some quicker FZR 1000's, and is now no longer racing he sold his bike to a friend of mine, at a pretty good price.
Yes you can run a different master cylinder ok.
Thanks for the help, mate

Get some FZR400RR (3TJ) calipers - they're four pot but fit the 83mm bolt spacing of the '89 FZR600 forks.
All the other four pots are 100mm spacing.
