Re: Ok this is a weird one for you
Hi
Just a quick update, engine now out of the bike, everytime i go down there the bike seems to be less and less, i thinks its trying to escape bit by bit.
found that all the shells and crank are good, but and there always seems to be a but, the con rod on the right hand side has wear, so have got a new one.
Like Chris said the engine will be tip top at the end of all this.
Have got the engine rails and have spent this afternoon stripping them down to bear metal and then im gong to repaint them. Going to spend next weekend at the bike shop and will give the frame a good gunk down, engine is getting a good coat of paint as well.
Will keep you up to date.
Going to learn how to put the engine back in so i can start to do more myself.
Thanks

Re: Ok this is a weird one for you
That is excellent-- and quite honestly what we all want to hear!!
While you are down there, take a quick look at the oil pump pickup. It has a screen over the opening. Sometimes gunk and junk can clog a lot if the screen, which serves to reduce the oil pump's efficiency and likewise reduce oil pressure. Sometimes members here will say they "spun a bearing" which means a main bearing was getting inadequate oil, and the crank friction caused it to fail. This can be a cause.

Hi
Have checked the pick up mesh and it all looks good have given it a clean.
Well the head is back on and all the valves have been ground and look like new, the only thing is the valves which were in the beginning were to tight and are now on 12 t on the exhaust and about 6-7 ta on the inlet, Bike chap says it may be due to a new gasket which is bigger than the old one. but its all getting back together again.
Should get it back before Xmas, Got a fantastic bargain on ebay, a full genuine exhaust for £30 the can has been down the road but have got it re sleaved and it looks great all the down pipes and collector looks like brand new. My one has been welded a shed load of times.
Hope everyone is doing ok.
Thanks

Re: Ok this is a weird one for you
i dont think a head gasket will effect your valve cleances at all make sure you have them adjusted right before you install the engine
Re: Ok this is a weird one for you
Ummm... everything to do with valve clearances (cams, buckets, valves, shims, and the head itself) are all on the same side of the gasket. I think your bike guy has been standing too close to the solvent tank.
Valve TIMING could be slightly altered, but not valve CLEARANCE. (And before someone even MORE pedantic than me - is that even possible? - mentions valve-piston clearance, that AIN'T the topic under discussion...)

Hi
Hope your sitting down, well i bought the Gasket set £75, Cam Chain £35.
The total cost from the Bike shop was £700 for the work and for the extra parts, Shims £46, Cam chain Guides£70, Main generator chain£90, Con rod, Oil, Bits and bobs.
I know its a lot to pay out but its worth it ( i hope its worth it).
The problem was the Main chain that runs from the crank to the alternator/generator thingy and a con rod which had some play, but mainly the Chain.
Looking forward to taking it out for a blast.
Thanks

Hi
Its back, seems to be a bit lumpy in second gear but it wasn't warmed up to be fair. Couldn't change down the gear selector is a bit hi, going to have to move it down a notch or two. left front indicator isn't working but thats just a lose wire.
But the really sad bit is that when i went to pick it up and the bike chap rolled it out, stared it up facing down the hill and handed it over i nearly dropped the bloody thing, im 41 and have had arthritis for about 15 years and some days its not good like today, and all the turkey, xmas pudding and so on and so on, hasn't helped.
Got to lose weight, Hee Hee, still gave the 50cc moped hells angels a laugh.
