91 FZR Project is almost complete!

Post by 907Lopez »

The only thing I need done now is to put the windscreen back on and also figure out the wiring charging system and she'll be good to go. The VR is fried and when I bought a new VR, the main fuse kept popping. Could this be a short in the wires?

Which VR have you got? The old 4 pronged, or the newer Finned 5 prong version? Everyone highly recommends the New VR. Your bike has the old VR fitted as stock

If you've wired it wrong that could blow the fuse. Disconnect the VR if the main fuse blows (30 amp Green fuse) its probably a short somewhere on the Red wire leading to the Ignition switch. If not either the VR is dead fried (shorting to ground), or could be wired wrong. Having never wired one incorrectly I don't know if that would blow the fuse, it's a guess.

If the fuse only blows with the VR connected and wired correctly, DO NOT use that VR!! It's fried.

I bought a new four prong VR, supposedly wired it correctly but soon as the positive battery terminal gets connected it blows the fuse. Now the new one got smoked...

If you've fried the VR search for the VR mod

EDIT any more questions fire away, A fried VR kills your electrics

You should check your stator winding's, something I have never done. You could have other problems. I'll put my thinking cap on and get back to you, l'll also work out how to check the stator <<< something I need to know any how.
