Re: FZR600 fighter build
The only gaskets you need are the clutch and starter. The other side has no oil so there is no need for a gasket. Why it shows them is beyond me.
www.partshark.com usually has some good prices although shipping takes awhile.

Radiator got a fresh coat of powder

pity about you having to strip the powder off the radiator doesn't work too well with plastic insulating it from the cool air.
600's are PITA with engine temp be a shame to lose the engine because it overheated !
BE VERY CAREFUL about what you use for stripping as the core is alloy if I remember which disolves with strong alkalies like caustic soda the main ingrediant for paint stripper.
If you blast it use some walnut (yes it will be slow ) but you may get ar ad that does not leak
Re: FZR600 fighter build
thanks for the tips guys i will def look into that for gaskets. George i put such a thin layer of powder on it hardley 1 mil, i am going to give it a run... i left all the stock guages so i will have a temp guage (i think there is a temp guage on there at least not sure i ever looked) i am not going to strip it till it shows that it is really heating up, this sucker is going to have a fan on it and be exposed completely, as will the motor.... only time will tell i guess, thank you so much for telling me that, it is something to keep and eye on that i would have not looked at before... if i need to replace it though Nate has a few i am sure he would be willing to part with, i would do that before stripping this sucker all the way down again, good looking out man, would have never though that, we have so many professional dirt bike and quad riders that bring us their radiators to coat, hell we did 65 of them for yamaha that i figured it would not be a big deal at all... weird, wonder if something has changed from the older stuff to the 2009 stuff
reassembly!.... time to get organized. cleaned up the work area, vacumed (that is right i vacume the shop easier to keep it clean than sweeping and does not put all that dust in the air to fk up my paint work)
put in the new swing arm bearings, upper and lower, and got the arm on, then i had to call it a night and go to class or my sifu would kick my ass for being late again. got a table set up with all the parts to go on, put the muffler back together with new packing and flipped the output cap so that it faces up when it is on the bike not down, figured why not it is different, the orange and black look killer... also tossed the switches back in the switch housings
I will put some serious time in on this sucker tomorrow and hope to have the motor in and a roller so i can get it up on the table and really get working on her
still need to do the engine cases but that can wait till the motor is in the bike

Re: FZR600 fighter build
thanks for the heads up man i will def keep an eye on it!
well.... there comes a time in every mans life when they have to say.... I WAS WRONG, and my friends i was SO WRONG. powder on the legs was such a bad idea i can not even express it. took me 3 hours to do the forks, thank god i had an extra set of legs, anyway i dropped the front end 2 inches to match the rear, added a spacer in the damper and cut 2 in out of the uppper spacer. did a blend of fork oil, 10oz 10w and 4oz 15w so that should do nicely.
motor is in. shock is on, lowering links are in. forks are done, trees are on
she is coming along. man i was so wrong powdering the fork legs, they got suck in the lowers took me forever to get them out and do it right, i was wrong, can not powder them. oooh well least it is my own build and not a customer!
she looks awesome so far!
slammed front end
what is left of the spacers i cut

Re: FZR600 fighter build
* can someone tell me if i put the brake arm support bracket on the correct way? i do not have the rear brake here it is in the other shop so i can not line it up and check
did not get much done this weekend, was sick, had dads bday, and customer stuff to get through...
did get the wheels on and new bearings in... took forever as the bolts where a mess so i took them all down and polished every bolt that went back on the bike... got to keep it clean and looking new!
then got the bike up on the table so she is easier to work on now! had the wife sit on it to test to make sure i got her low enough for her to ride she is 5'2 on a good day, and is just about flat footed on it... and super pumped i may add to ride this sucker
some decent pictures with a camera and not a cell (please forgive the grime and crap on the bike it is still a project)
just for grins i have tossed on the plastics to check out what she will look like
still have some molding to do for the new tail light before i paint the tins but here is the new tail light that i will add the turn signals to as well

Re: FZR600 fighter build
well... not much but forward progress... got all the base coat on the engine cases, so all that is left is to lay the orange... then went back into the bike shop put on the rear sets and linkage, rear brake stay, and the upper stay.... then had some time left so i started to cut and shape the rear fairing to the new tail light i am going to use... and yes i will have intregrated turn signals in there as well....

Re: FZR600 fighter build
Not sure on the hole, but you might want to check your pegs. I think they are on backwards. They should bend up and backwards if the bike were to fall. Right now they will bend forward. Just a heads up.

NATE you are right man, i flipped them last night, ha ha ha had the brackets on the wrong side... man, building a rocket is alot more than i thought it would be! that is for sure, i think harleys and chops are way easier!
anyway... my question of the day!
* I am going to be cleaning out my carbs today, the bike has a stock header and V/H slip on, stock airbox. any idea what jets it is supposed to have in it? so when i open it up i can make sure it is jetted right?
* also does anyone know where i can download a free manual for this sucker.... i have a contact with a manual website for the shop but they do not carry the FZR, can you imagine that!
